Not Just Piano Lessons!

Being a KKM student is not just coming to piano lessons. It’s emerging the student in the world of music:

Piano

Weekly 1:1 piano lessons, tailored to student’s personal level and goals. Whether starting a s complete beginner, or coming in with some experiece, we focus on correct technique and long term piano playing efficiency to allow the students to develop healthy habits and enjoy playing more and more interesting and beautiful pieces.

Theory of Music

Theory is to music what grammar is to language. Theory is a crucial component of learning to play the piano. Understanding the elements of music, key signatures, time signatures, intervals, scales and chords, all of that gives a thorough understanding of the musical language.

Ear Training

Ear Training gives the student the ability to recognise and name the sounds, and the relationships between them. We can’t work with the matter unles we give it a name. Tuning in our ear and being able to recognise the sounds (intervals, modes, meters, etc.) makes our hearing more sensitve towards the sounds that we make on our instrument and allowes us to control it and make it beautiful.

Performances

Playing piano and performing in front of a live audience are two completely different skills. At KKM students learn how to prepare themselves for performances, guide their thoughts, manage the excess energy (nervousness). At KKM we offer and encourage students to practice their performance skills by performing at the Winter Piano Concert (June) and Classical Christmas Piano Concert (December).

Resources

Students receive additional resources that support their piano progress:

  • Piano Calendar
  • videos from the lessons with instructions how to practice at home
  • practice planners
  • challenges
  • notes from the lessons
  • and much more, tailored to their individual needs

Exams preparation

This preparational class is customised for those who are planning to take Trinity College London Piano or Theory exams. We will stay extremely focused on individual needs and cover all that is required to pass the exam with confidence and receive the best results!

History of Music

During the lessons students learn about different composers, the musical eras, what were the characteristic trends in each era, the historcal instruments, and the stories told by compositions. Students discover the world of music from the chants of medieval monks, to the modern blends of jazz.

Piano Calendar

Every year 12 students prepare 12 biographies of different composers, which are then published as PIANO CALENDAR. Every year each KKM student receives their Piano Calendar where they learn about the composers and history of music, track their practicing habits, and access the notes from the lessons.

Solfege

Singing is the most natural way to make music, and it’s best way to develop our hearing & become sensitive to the sounds we want to make on the piano. Being able to sing in tune allows the student to shape phrases, recognise dynamics, and tell stories through theis piano playing.
